Who We Serve Example
A business owner reviewing the company 401(k)
This client example is fictional and provided for illustration only. It does not represent an actual client. Not all client experiences will include all steps set forth below.
-
First conversation
David books an introductory conversation. We learn about the company, the plan's history, who handles it today, and what he wants for his employees.
-
Review and proposal
We review the plan's fund lineup, fees, and service agreements. Our written proposal explains the two roles we can take: a 3(21) investment adviser, who recommends fund choices while David keeps the final say, or a 3(38) investment manager, who selects and monitors the plan's investments and takes on responsibility for those decisions. Either way, David remains responsible for choosing and monitoring us. We also recommend a recordkeeper whose cost and service model fit a company of his size, and the proposal explains how we're paid. With the trade-offs laid out, the decision is David's. He asks us to put the proposal in place.
-
Putting it in place
We build a lineup of quality, reasonably priced funds, document the process in an investment policy statement, and advocate with the plan's providers for reasonable service fees. We also handle much of the compliance work that shows the plan is run prudently.
-
Revisiting as needs change
We monitor the funds, review the plan with David on a regular schedule, support his employees with education, and revisit the plan as the company grows.
